Lunch Menus
School Dinners
Bonner provides pupils the opportunity to have either hot meals, which are cooked on the premises by Tower Hamlets catering staff, or to bring their own packed lunch. Hot meals provided comply with national requirements for healthy eating in school. Children make their lunch choice via 'School Grid' when they arrive to school each morning.
In Reception to Year 6 Midday Meal Supervisors (MMS) supervise children during their lunchtime, on the playground and in the lunch hall. We always ensure that there are qualified first-aiders on duty.
Full-time Nursery children eat lunch in their classroom in a family setting. The pupils bring their own packed lunch from home.
All primary meals (not Nursery) in Tower Hamlets are now offered to pupils free of charge. This has been made possible by extending the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meal scheme to Key Stage Two pupils too through the Mayor's Meals Scheme. Our menus alternate and meet the Government's food based guidelines launched at the beginning of 2015.
If a child has a special dietary requirements we make every effort to accommodate this.
Please note that occasionally our cook may have to make menu changes at short notice (for instance if there is a problem with food deliveries) but we aim to keep this to a minimum.
Please see below for the full lunch menu from November 2024 with this message from Tower Hamlets Catering Services:
This menu has been accredited with the Bronze ProVeg School Plates Award. To be eligible for this award, we have taken steps to promote plant-based school recipes, which produce significantly less carbon than meat-based dishes. The dishes must also be nutritionally balanced and, of course, tasty, while also encouraging children to opt for more sustainable choices at lunchtime.
Working with ProVeg UK, a non-profit organisation, our new menu includes a wide range of delicious, planet-friendly dishes that the children will love whilst helping them to make the connection between their food and its impact on the planet. New dishes include ‘Falafel in Sumaq & Za'atar Sauce with Lebanese Rice’, ‘BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Burger with Spicy Diced Potatoes’ and ‘Lentil & Vegetable Dahl with Rice.’
We continue to promote our “Allergy Free” day on Wednesdays where recipes Do Not contain any of the 14 major Allergens that are identified by food law as being the most potent and prevalent in causing food allergies. Children with allergies can often feel a bit different so it is really important that children have a chance to sit down together and share food regardless of allergies.
