Intent
The intent of the D&T curriculum at Bonner Primary School is to inspire children’s creativity through hands-on learning that encourages planning, creating and evaluating. This focus aligns with our pedagogical approach to creativity, providing children with opportunities to explore and express their ideas while building confidence in problem-solving. D&T serves as a medium for children to enjoy the process of creation, resilience and developing imaginative thinking that complements their broader educational journey.
Implementation
Our D&T curriculum is structured through the Plan Bee scheme, with three topics taught per year from Years 1 to 6, ensuring a progression of skills and knowledge.
Teachers adapt these lessons, making cross-curricular links where relevant and emphasising the development of key vocabulary. Each topic is framed by an enquiry question that guides students through the stages of planning, creating, and evaluating, helping them to make meaningful connections to other subjects and deepen their understanding through Bonner’s step-by-step approach.
Impact
The impact of our D&T curriculum is reflected in the enthusiasm with which children talk about their projects and the high-quality outcomes they achieve. Through regular monitoring, we observe that students take pride in their work, showcasing their growing skills and confidence. D&T at Bonner not only equips students with practical skills but also fosters resilience, problem-solving abilities, and a love for creativity, all of which contribute to their broader personal and academic development.
